Who are we?

In 2015, IAPB Canada was renamed to Canadian Association for Plant Biotechnology (CAPB).

IAPB Canada was part of the International Association for Plant Biotechnology (IAPB). IAPB was formed in 1970-1971 with the name of the International Association for Plant Tissue Culture (IAPTC) when plant in vitro regeneration was a major research area in plant sciences.

In 1998, IAPTC congress was held in Israel and the association was renamed to include Biotechnology (IAPTC&B) according to the research area expansion. During the 11th IAPTC&B Congress which was held in Beijing, China in 2006, the association name was once again changed to its current name: The International Association for Plant Biotechnology (IAPB). This name reflects the research change and development from the original plant tissue culture.

Our goals:

  • Promote interaction among plant biotechnology researchers in Canada.
  • Liaison with the International Association of Plant Biotechnology.
  • Advocate for plant biotechnology research
  • Bridge the gap between academia/basic research and industry
  • Serve as a contact point for plant biotechnology-related information in Canada.
